About Valinda

Life can be challenging, and it’s easy to feel alone when struggles arise. Reaching out for help can feel overwhelming, but Valinda Mikesell (she/her) is passionate about supporting individuals on their journey to healing and growth. She believes that no one is truly alone when life gets hard, and she is committed to walking alongside her clients with empathy, trust, honesty, and open communication.

Valinda helps clients rediscover their sense of self by building self-compassion, renewing confidence, and developing personal insight. She uses a person-centered approach to create a nonjudgmental space where clients can engage in meaningful self-exploration.

She has a special focus on substance abuse counseling, helping clients work through shame, guilt, and the challenges of addiction. Valinda also has extensive experience supporting individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and mood disorders.

Valinda works with clients in person in Rexburg and Pocatello, and she also provides virtual therapy across Idaho.

Treatment Approach

Valinda integrates multiple evidence-based approaches, tailoring each session to the client’s needs. Her methods include:

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for managing thoughts and behaviors

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for values-based living

  • Mindfulness practices for grounding and stress reduction

  • Person-centered therapy for empathy, honesty, and collaboration

She is also working toward certification specializing in counseling for ADHD.
